Yeah, there are basically a couple schools of thought when it comes to Fenugreek. The bottom line is Fenugreek works, HOWEVER, it’s mechanism of action is questionable. Basically it works by inhibiting the conversion from testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Lower DHT is positive for some, but because DHT is 3 – 10 times stronger than testosterone is, some feel that it’s counter-productive to prevent the conversion. When I’ve used it personally, as in Testofuel, I’ve had great results. Hope that helps clear it up a bit.

Do you suffer from any of these symptoms? Taking certain medications will also lower your testosterone levels. All it takes is one blood test in our clinic to determine whether or not your hormones are insufficient . Your bloodwork is covered by insurance with no co pay, or if you chose to pay cash, the cost is $ for females and $ for males.  This lab test for females includes total testosterone Estradiol, follicle stimulating hormone, progesterone, Thyroid stimulating hormone, free T-3 , thyroid antibodies and  Complete blood count . For males, we will need total testosterone, prolactin, thyroid stimulating hormone, free T-3 , thyroid antibodies, PSA, and complete blood count.

Also known as “velvet bean”, Mucuna pruriens is a tropical plant that is known for its ability to reduce the level of prolactin (a female hormone) in the bloodstream. As the male body contains both male and female hormones, Mucuna pruriens lowers prolactin levels in men, which helps to prevent testosterone depletion. Another important benefit of Mucuna pruriens is its ability to lower the level of cortisol (. the “stress hormone”) in the bloodstream. Clinical research shows that cortisol essentially dismantles testosterone molecules before they are even able to leave the testes.

Clinical research still hasn’t determined a hard threshold level for when symptoms of low T begin appearing . Some recent research suggests that symptoms of low T might begin appearing in men when their total testosterone level dips below 320 ng/dl . According to anecdotal evidence from the owner of Peak Testosterone,  many men start noticing low T symptoms when their total testosterone dips into the 400s . Of course, it’s anecdotal, so take it for what it’s worth, but it’s probably a good idea to stay above 500 ng/dl if you don’t want to experience symptoms of low T.
